A new path finder concept in this 21st century for proper rehabilitation and reacceptance of mentally and neurologically ailing persons by forming self help groups of patients, their immediate family, doctors, social workers in grass root level and providing them opportunity to stand on their own.
How are you?
Are you Ok?
Whenever we meet others, the first question is about our mental status.
But…………..
Agony, pain, disturbances, desperation and frustration are the companions in our life and in many times it exceeds the balanced level developing many psychological problems and neurological problems.
How to counteract these and how it can be reached a comfortable zone.. Manasa Keralam aims at the mental health of the people.
Help to provide a wide range of psychiatric rehabilitation group services and activities for adults and children experiencing a mental illness who require a more secured environment in order to reach their maximum potential for independent living.
Encourage research and studies in the area of mental health- specifically in the area of rehabilitation. Find out organisations in society who are ready to accept to give jobs to recovered patients so that they can be assured a safe future.
To serve as a link between various government agencies and the patient and their environment ensuring that the help really reaches who require it. Take out programmes to eradicate stigma and orthodox thinking in society about mental health and to make society see various mental illness as just as any other disease.
Mental illness is a highly stigmatized and deeply personal health issue. Manasa is committed to a bottom-up, grassroots approach based on the knowledge that creating lasting change requires strong partnerships with local communities, health workers, and other stakeholders.
India’s rural citizens have little access to information about mental illness and the least access to mental health services compared with those living in urban centers. Those living with a mental illness can face severe social exclusion and a huge economic burden to their family and the community at large. Manasa plans to reach out to rural population by working along with District Mental Health Programme volunteers by identifying patients who can be reached.
We believe that patients and their family members should not feel shame in seeking help for a mental illness. The first step in overcoming the many social barriers to accessing mental health services is giving community members information about what mental illness really is and what services are available. Learning to accept and understand individuals with a mental illness is a critical step toward improving access to and utilization of mental health services.
Direct Service Delivery
Although, we understand the importance of advocacy, policy, and research in the mental health sector, we believe and focus our efforts on bringing direct mental health services to communities. Hence, our efforts lead us to focus on mental health education programs, intervention by medical treatment wherever required, and training local stakeholders to become community mental healthcare workers—sustaining our efforts long-term.
