Supporting People, Strengthening Families

A new path finder concept in this 21st century for proper rehabilitation and reacceptance of mentally and neurologically ailing persons by forming self help groups of patients, their immediate family, doctors and social workers at grass root level and providing them opportunity to stand on their own.

“How are you? Are you OK?” Whenever we meet others, the first question is about our mental status.

Agony, pain, disturbances, desperation and frustration are companions in our life and at many times these exceed the balanced level, developing psychological and neurological problems.

Manasa Keralam aims at improving the mental health of people and helping affected individuals reach a more comfortable and supportive zone.

Our Main Aims

Creating opportunities for rehabilitation, independence, acceptance and meaningful participation in family and community life.

Psychiatric Rehabilitation

Help provide a wide range of psychiatric rehabilitation group services and activities for adults and children experiencing mental illness who require a secure environment to reach their maximum potential for independent living.

Research & Studies

Encourage research and studies in the area of mental health, specifically rehabilitation, while identifying organisations willing to provide employment opportunities for recovered patients.

Connecting People

Serve as a link between government agencies, patients and their environment so that support reaches the people who require it.

Ending Stigma

Take programmes to eradicate stigma and orthodox thinking about mental health and encourage society to view mental illness like any other health condition.

Family Support

Recognise the essential role of family members and caregivers and help create a supportive environment for betterment and recovery.

Independent Living

Support individuals in developing opportunities, life skills and social connections that encourage confidence and independent living.

New Choices

There is a team of mental health professionals working at different institutions in the fields of Psychiatry, Neurology and Psychology. But still there is a long gap between the needy and service providers.

Apart from other diseases and disabilities, mental health problems demand essential family and social support for the betterment of affected persons.

Family & Caregiver Support Supporting families and caregivers who play an important role in recovery.
Tailor-Made Rehabilitation Rehabilitation programmes designed around the individual needs of patients.
Life Skills Development Supporting the development of life skills for people experiencing severe mental illness.

Connecting People With Support

Manasa Keralam works to bridge the gap between people who need mental health support and professionals and organisations that can provide meaningful assistance.

Our Values

Creating lasting change through community participation, education, inclusion and dignity.

01

Grassroots Approach

Manasa is committed to a bottom-up, grassroots approach based on the knowledge that lasting change requires strong partnerships with local communities, health workers and other stakeholders.

02

Commitment to Rural Populations

Manasa plans to reach rural populations by working along with District Mental Health Programme volunteers and identifying patients who can be reached.

03

Community Education

We believe patients and family members should not feel shame in seeking help. Community education can help overcome social barriers and improve understanding of mental illness.

04

Respect & Dignity

Promoting acceptance, inclusion and meaningful participation of individuals with mental illness in society.

05

Community Engagement

Encouraging communities to understand mental illness, available services and the importance of supporting individuals and families.

06

Social Inclusion

Working towards reducing social exclusion and enabling affected persons to participate in family, work and community life.

Direct Service Delivery

Although we understand the importance of advocacy, policy and research in the mental health sector, we believe and focus our efforts on bringing direct mental health services to communities.

Our efforts focus on mental health education programmes, intervention by medical treatment wherever required, and training local stakeholders to become community mental healthcare workers, sustaining our efforts over the long term.
